Vortex

Vortex is a sculptural study of energy in motion. Inspired by the raw power and speed of a swirling mass of gas moving faster than a tornado, the piece captures the physical sensation of being drawn inward—into momentum, force, and the invisible structure of turbulence. It explores how chaos takes shape, forming a centre, a pull, and a purpose.

Built using heavy moulding paste on panel board, the piece rises off the surface with sculptural force. Each ridge and curve is shaped by hand, creating a three-dimensional spiral that mimics the movement of a vortex in full rotation. Chrome paint sweeps across the form, catching and reflecting light to accentuate depth and motion. The metallic sheen adds a futuristic quality, turning the raw material into something elemental yet otherworldly.

At 38cm x 38cm, Vortex holds a compact intensity. The dimensional surface draws the viewer in, echoing the gravitational pull of real-world vortices found in nature and in space. It is both still and active—a suspended moment of motion captured in material.
