Bed Rock

Bed Rock is part of the Unearthed collection, a body of work inspired by the ancient strength found in natural landscapes. This piece draws from the solid presence of terrain shaped over millennia, where land, sea, and ice press together in a quiet, powerful stillness. It captures the weight of what lies beneath the surface and invites the viewer to consider the enduring layers of the earth and the stories they hold.

Created using a combination of palette knives and glass paste, the surface is both sculpted and raw. Areas of smooth polish contrast with rough, textured passages, creating a physical rhythm across the panel. These shifts in texture suggest the collision of natural forces, where erosion, pressure, and time leave their mark. The glass paste gives the piece a cool, crystalline edge, evoking the presence of ice and mineral embedded within the land.

The three-dimensional effect is deliberate. It gives the viewer a tactile experience, as if they are not simply observing the landscape but standing upon it. Each detail is meant to be felt, to connect the viewer with the sense of grounding and permanence that rock and earth provide.

Although modest in scale at 38cm x 38cm, Bed Rock carries a strong presence. It is quiet but firm, offering a moment of stillness and a reminder of the foundation that always exists beneath shifting surfaces.
